About The Position

Action Pact is a community action agency dedicated to improving lives and communities for over 50 years. We are seeking a full-time EHS Floater to provide a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment for children. This role involves assisting the assigned teacher in the day-to-day management and planning of a classroom. As a floater, classroom assignments will rotate within the center, and assistance may be required at other centers in our service area. The position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, with a CDA/TCC or coursework in Early Childhood Education being preferred. The hiring range is $13.02 - $13.20 (actual) / $11.32 - $11.47 (prorate).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily head count and complete daily attendance records and meal count.
  • Follow an approved curriculum and daily schedule, and assist in development and implementation of daily lesson plans that foster cognitive functioning, social, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth, including nutrition, mental health, and dental health activities.
  • Monitor, document, and follow the policy for reporting suspected child abuse.
  • Observe, assess, and record the behavior of assigned children, ensuring records reflect assessment tools and that program activities are based on ongoing assessment.
  • Assist in establishing and documenting educational and/or developmental goals for each child and updating assessments.
  • In the absence of the Teacher, and in conjunction with relevant staff and parents, develop and implement individualized education plans (IEP) for children with disabilities and Individualized Prescriptive Plans for children at risk.
  • Assist in compiling an inventory and requesting/storing adequate classroom materials and supplies.
  • Assist the Teacher with home visits to parents or guardians of assigned children.
  • Assist the Teacher in coordinating the activities of volunteers.
  • Understand, respect, and maintain confidential information regarding children, families, and the program.
  • Assist in the implementation of the assigned curriculum designed to improve children's physical abilities, social/emotional development, and mental skills.
  • Assist the Teacher in demonstrating appropriate classroom management techniques, emphasizing positive discipline and prohibiting corporal punishment or isolation.
  • Advise parents on the progress and/or problems of each child, documenting all contacts and attempted contacts.
  • Be courteous and receptive to Head Start parents, encouraging their participation in their child's development.
  • Supervise the arrival and departure of children and assist with loading/unloading buses.
  • Assist in establishing, utilizing, and identifying a variety of interest areas within the classroom, organizing space, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure rooms are neat and attractive, with children's work displayed at eye level.
  • Ensure evidence in each child's folder indicates their program of activities and experiences are planned based on ongoing assessment.
  • Maintain classroom records in the absence of the Teacher, as established by the appropriate Specialist.
  • Report needs for equipment repair or replacement to the Teacher.
  • Coordinate with appropriate community resources with approval from the Center Coordinator/Lead Teacher.
  • Promote parent and community volunteers and actively seek In-Kind donations.
  • Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.
  • Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice-making through open-ended questions and active listening.
  • Assist in other centers within the service area as needed.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.
