About The Position

Action Pact is a community action agency dedicated to improving lives and communities for over 50 years. We are seeking a full-time EHS Floater to provide a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment for children. The Floater will assist the assigned teacher in the day-to-day management and planning of a classroom. This is a floating position with rotating classroom assignments within the center and may require assisting in other centers within our service area. The role involves implementing duties related to classroom, children, and parents according to performance standards and program review instruments, and assisting in daily classroom management.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid Georgia Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

CDA/TCC or some coursework in Early Childhood Education.

Responsibilities

Conduct daily head count and complete daily attendance records and meal count.
Follow an approved curriculum and daily schedule, and assist in development and implementation of daily lesson plans that reflect activities and experiences to include all Head Start performance standards requirements, fostering cognitive functioning, social, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth, and allowing children to make choices and be creative. Lesson plans must include appropriate nutrition, mental health, and dental health activities.
Monitor, document, and follow the policy for reporting suspected child abuse.
Observe, assess, and record the behavior of assigned children, ensuring records reflect assessment tools used and that program activities and experiences are planned and based on ongoing assessment.
Ensure an educational and/or developmental goal is established for each child and document efforts to update each assigned child’s assessment.
In the absence of the Teacher and in conjunction with Disability Specialist and appropriate professional staff, parents, etc., develop and implement an individualized education plan (IEP) for each child with an identified and confirmed disability, and an Individualized Prescriptive Plan for “children at risk”.
Assist to compile an inventory and request/store adequate and appropriate classroom materials and supplies.
Assist Teacher with visits to the homes of parents or guardians of children assigned to the classroom.
Assist Teacher to coordinate the activities of volunteers.
Understand, respect, and maintain confidential information regarding children, families, and the program.
Assist in the implementation of the assigned curriculum designed to improve the physical abilities, social/emotional development, and mental skills of children.
Assist Teacher to demonstrate appropriate classroom management techniques, including establishing and maintaining organization and dealing with disruptions and behavior problems. (Corporal punishment and isolation are strictly prohibited).
Advise parents of progress and/or problems of each child and document all contacts and attempted contacts with parents.
Be courteous and receptive to all Head Start parents, encourage participation in their child’s development.
Assist the Teacher to supervise the arrival and departure of children and to load/unload buses.
Assist the Lead Teacher/Teacher to establish, utilize, and identify a variety of interest areas, and organize space, equipment, and supplies.
Assure that rooms are neat and attractive, and children’s work is displayed at eye level.
Assure there are indicators or evidence in each child’s folder that their program of activities and experiences are planned and based on ongoing assessment.
Assist in the absence of the Teacher to maintain classroom records established by the appropriate Specialist.
Report to Teacher needs for equipment repair or placement.
Assist Teacher, with approval, to coordinate with appropriate community resources.
Promote parent and community volunteers and actively seek In-Kind donations.
Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.
Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully.
Required to assist in other centers within our service area, as needed.
Perform all other duties assigned.
