About The Position

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer is responsible for ensuring workplace safety, environmental compliance, and risk management through inspections, training, and program implementation with a focus on continuous improvement to achieve zero injuries and compliance issues. This is both a technical leadership and hands-on role requiring a bias for action and continuous improvement mindset and teamwork approach. The EHS Engineer plays a critical role in protecting employees, ensuring environmental stewardship, and maintaining regulatory compliance, making them essential to organizational safety and sustainability initiatives.

Requirements

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of industrial processes, environmental laws, and safety regulations.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to assess hazards, analyze risks, and design effective safety solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Clearly convey safety protocols and regulatory requirements to employees and management.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure compliance with safety standards and monitor the effectiveness of safety measures.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster a culture of safety.
  • Project Management: Plan, implement, and oversee EHS initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Chemistry, or related fields, or 9+ years of relevant experience in EHS operations.
  • 3+ years of prior experience in industrial or corporate EHS roles, including risk assessment, compliance, and environmental and safety program management.
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to manage time and execute timely and accurately in a fast-paced environment.

  • OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, or other relevant EHS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Hazard Identification and Risk Management: Assess potential environmental, health, and safety hazards in the workplace and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other relevant standards.
  • Program Development: Design, implement, and maintain EHS programs, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety protocols.
  • Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular workplace inspections, internal audits, and compliance assessments to identify hazards and verify safety measures.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations of accidents, injuries, near misses or environmental incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver EHS training programs to employees, promoting safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Participate in emergency preparedness and response planning to ensure readiness for workplace incidents.
  • Project and Vendor Management: Oversee EHS aspects of new projects, coordinate with contractors, and manage vendor compliance with safety standards.
  • Partner with all departments to align EHS objectives with business needs.
  • Follow company and departmental principles, rules, guidelines and policies with regards to health and safety, Compliance, ISO & IATF requirements, lean six sigma manufacturing principles, and 6S.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and safety audits.
  • Review and update EHS policies and procedures.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training sessions and safety briefings.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Track compliance metrics and report findings to leadership.
