About The Position

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our San Leandro team as an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator. EHS Coordinators support the team to attain manufacturing goals while adhering to environmental, health, and safety standards. Long-term value is created through the application of our Principle Based Management ™ business philosophy. The EH&S Coordinator will assist in providing leadership, strategic direction, and support for plant operations. This position will drive environmental and safety excellence through promoting employee involvement, ownership, and accountability to proactively identify hazards and implement the appropriate mitigating strategies. The Site EH&S Coordinator will establish Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) metrics, goals and benchmarks that drive excellence while aligning and optimizing the Manufacturing Enterprise in delivering value to the business that meet or exceed business and company EH&S objectives and requirements.

Requirements

  • Two (2) or more years of Environmental, Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health and Safety Management, Environmental Science, Natural Sciences or Biological Science
  • Experience using root cause analysis
  • Experience in a safety, environmental and/or quality role

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the EHS Manager and operations leaders to implement safety policies, procedures, audit protocols, and training requirements
  • Build operational safety ownership through an effective Compliance System Owner (CSO) process and lead safety improvement initiatives with the CSOs & Leadership team
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, RCRA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements
  • Complete required environmental and safety inspections and document corrective actions
  • Investigate incidents, identify contributing factors, and issue accurate reports meeting critical deadlines.
  • Monitor federal, state, and local EHS regulatory changes affecting the facility
  • Maintain adequate inventories of PPE, personal and departmental locks, and other safety equipment & supplies.
  • Facilitate and document operational, physical, and departmental hazard and risk assessments
  • Coach employees on the plant floor to reinforce safe work practices and build EHS capability
  • Coordinate EHS training, records, and communications with employees, contractors, agencies, and other external partners
  • Work effectively in a high-volume industrial environment with noise, heat, humidity, dust, and grease
  • Apply Principle Based Management (PBM) in daily decisions and interactions
  • Apply Human and Organizational Performance principles to learn from errors, improve systems, and support employee development
  • Spend approximately 50% of working time on the plant floor to understand equipment safety systems and support operations
