About The Position

Under the direction of the Corporate Compliance Officer, this position is responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of health, safety and environmental programs. The EHS Coordinator will provide environmental health and safety support to ORAFOL Americas Wallingford facility and will ensure that all practices comply with regulatory requirements. The EHS Coordinator will lead all training activities for the ORAFOL Americas, Wallingford location. Will manage training calendars, training records & matrix’s and will define organizational training needs. This position will coordinate the Job Safety Analysis, and PPE requirement programs for all mechanical activities related to the manufacturing areas, and will set-up and maintain supplier safety programs as needed. Individual will be willing to work a first into section shift schedule assisting with third shift on a once a month basis. Requirements

  • Associates Degree; Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certification and/or registration may be used in lieu of advanced degree.
  • 4 plus years’ experience in a Safety/Facilities role in any industry.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have 4 years’ hands-on experience in providing training and training development.
  • OSHA General Industry certification required.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude for manufacturing equipment understanding.
  • Highly proficient with using a PC (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, databases).
  • Able to understand the importance of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to apply skills to continuous processes while maintaining maximum levels of safety.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs, greater that 50lbs with assistance.
  • Required ability to regularly move about the facility and sit, bend, stoop, or kneel.
  • Must be able to walk, stretch, reach, crawl and work in small spaces on a regular basis.
  • Must has a positive “can do” attitude and a sense of accountability; takes initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Safe operation of all ORAFOL manufacturing equipment while training personnel.
  • Develop, maintain and implement Job Safety Analysis programs; approve and procure PPE, Industrial Hygienic products, Noise testing, training resources, and any other vendors as required.
  • Ensure that company policies comply with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Lead Site Safety Committee and drive safety culture throughout all areas, maintain safety information on the business portal.
  • Develop, conduct, and oversee all required EHS training for new hires and existing employees.
  • Develop and execute all necessary safety communications.
  • Keep department heads and managers informed of any hazards, concerns and/or safety issues.
  • Maintain, execute, and document strategic and tactical Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and plans in accordance with local, state, federal, and OSHA requirements.
  • Prepare, submit, and document all OSHA reporting requirements, hazardous waste management requirements, DOT regulations, and verify compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure accurate submission and completion of incident reports and establish internal protocol for determining the root cause and ensuring implementation of corrective action to not incur repeat incidents.
  • Maintain the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans and Procedures; act as site emergency coordinator.
  • Assure accurate OSHA reporting for all OSHA logs and reports (300/300A).
  • Maintain SDS tracking system, which ensures availability to all employees and compliance with HAZCOM requirements.
  • Assist the Human Resources Manager with filing and oversight of worker’s compensation claims.
  • Conduct and ensure that all safety inspections are done and up-to-date; maintain safety inspection logs.
  • Maintain the Site Preparedness and Emergency plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Compliance Officer on development and implementation of hazmat procedures and policies.
  • Ensure that processes needed for the Environmental Management System are established, implemented & maintained.
  • Ensure that all site reporting is complete & submitted within established deadlines.
  • Reporting to management on the performance of the system & any need for improvements.
  • Ensuring the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Compliance Officer on development and implementation of hazmat procedures and policies.
  • Oversee and verify the day-to-day compliance for managing waste on site, including adherence to applicable satellite accumulation (SAA) and 90-day container storage area (MAA) requirements.
  • Prepare waste determinations and complete the required annual review/update and recertification of applicable waste determinations.
  • Conduct pre-transport functions prior to the off-site shipment and management of hazardous waste.
  • Select and coordinate with a CT DEP licensed HW transporter for the safe and legal off site shipment of hazardous/state waste, used oil, and universal waste.
  • Select and coordinate with a licensed/permitted Treatment, Storage, and/or Disposal facility and/or a recycling/recovery facility.
  • Review, approve and sign applicable shipping communication such as the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, other shipping documents such as bills of ladings, shipping labels/markings, and Land Disposal Restriction (LDR) notifications.
  • Verify compliance with applicable Department of Transportation's (DOT) regulations for the safe and legal transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Complete initial and tri-annual refresher Hazardous Material Employee training as required by the DOT in 49 CFR 172.704.
  • Maintain appropriate records and complete required reports, including Uniform hazardous waste manifests, Land Disposal Restriction (LDR) notifications, completed inspection documents (Daily, Weekly, and Monthly), Manifest Exception reports, Biennial Hazardous Waste Reports, and documents required by the administrator for DEEP/EPA Reporting Requirements.
  • Conduct daily loading/unloading inspections and weekly hazardous waste storage area inspections in accordance with procedures.
  • Follow prescribed safety guidelines in accordance with ORAFOL Americas Safety program; use required PPE.
  • Maintains an optimal level of product quality and adheres to ORAFOL’s Quality Program.
  • Keep department heads and managers informed of any hazards and/or safety issues/concerns.
  • Adhere to the ORAFOL Americas safety policy and procedures.
  • Provide Receptionist desk lunch coverage on a rotating basis and back-up when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
