A person in this position will assists Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Manager with implementation, coordination, and enforcement of the industrial pretreatment and surcharge program, septage program, and the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 45001 Environmental Health and Safety Management System for the Water and Sewer Authority, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the direction of the Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Manager. This job requires: general knowledge of chemistry including terminology, principles, and techniques; general knowledge of the principles of organic and inorganic chemistry; some knowledge of operations of wastewater treatment processes and systems including industrial pretreatment processes and regulations; some knowledge of sampling and testing procedures; ability to read and interpret technical state and federal guidelines on wastewater treatment procedures and tests; ability to establish a sampling and monitoring program; ability to prepare and keep accurate records and prepare reports; ability to understand and implement oral and written instructions; ability to perform research to determine cause of problems of a chemical nature which affect plant operations; ability to perform mathematical calculations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory officials, industry contacts, associates, and the general public. Also required are the following: Associates Degree with coursework in biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, or related field and some experience in wastewater treatment processes, pretreatment regulations, pretreatment inspections, regulatory compliance and laboratory operations, wastewater analysis and sampling procedures, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
