Our team in Space & Defense is looking for an Environmental, Health and Safety Compliance Engineer to join them. You will report to the Site EHS Manager and will have an onsite work schedule in Blacksburg, VA. In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation and execution of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for the Blacksburg North location. You will ensure consistent application of EHS standards while supporting site-specific operational needs. Acting as a trusted partner to leadership and employees, this role drives compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement in EHS performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, safety, chemical, engineering or related degree
  • 3 years of manufacturing related environmental, health, and safety experience including the following:
  • Management of hazardous waste and hazardous materials transportation.
  • Identifying hazards, assessing risk and provide options to eliminate or minimize the hazards/risks.
  • Proven ability to interpret EHS data and take action
  • Experience writing clear and concise site EHS programs
  • Experience performing EHS gap assessments and the ability to prioritize findings
  • Experience creating (or modifying existing training) and conducting training in regulatory compliance topics appropriate to the region and job scope in EHS

Responsibilities

  • Lead EHS programs, ensuring compliance with regulations and corporate standards
  • Deliver EHS training and ensure workforce compliance and engagement
  • Maintain consistent EHS practices while supporting site-specific needs
  • Collect, analyze, and report EHS data (e.g., chemical, noise, emissions, waste)
  • Identify hazards, assess risk, and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and audit programs
  • Interpret regulations and implement practical, compliant solutions
  • Support site operations with EHS guidance and continuous improvement
  • Manage permits, reporting, and EHS systems integration
  • Support emergency response and lead during incidents
  • Coordinate with regulators and manage audits and corrective actions
  • Partner with site and corporate EHS teams on key initiatives
