Caterpillar is seeking an EHS Associate in Sanford, NC. In this role, you will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of Environmental, Health & Safety programs designed to protect employees, the environment, and business operations. This position partners with manufacturing and operational teams to conduct inspections, monitor compliance, perform risk assessments, maintain EHS records, and promote a culture of safety excellence. The role assists with employee training, incident prevention initiatives, and continuous improvement activities that strengthen workplace safety and environmental performance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies; ability to implement EHS policies to ensure that provided products and services are safe for people and the environment and in compliance with legal requirements and standards.
  • Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience in manufacturing, industrial, logistics, construction, or related operations.
  • Understanding of OSHA, EPA, and workplace safety regulations.
  • Experience supporting audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Manufacturing or industrial EHS experience.
  • ASP, CSP, CHMM, or similar professional certification.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards.
  • Environmental compliance and sustainability experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of Environmental, Health & Safety programs.
  • Perform inspections, audits, and testing activities to monitor EHS compliance and identify potential safety concerns.
  • Conduct workplace risk assessments and hazard evaluations to reduce operational risks and promote employee safety.
  • Assist in delivering employee training on EHS policies, regulations, procedures, emergency response, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain accurate EHS records, reports, documentation, permits, and compliance files.
  • Support incident investigations, corrective action plans, and preventative safety initiatives.
  • Partner with production, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to improve safety performance.
  • Assist in developing and updating EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.
