About The Position

SA Recycling is looking for a highly motivated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Assistant for our team. The EHS Assistant will actively participate in training, coaching, and culture building activities; the coordination of various environmental, health and safety systems and programs; as well as ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety, occupational health and environmental rules and regulations. The EHS Coordinator will also assist the Regional EHS Manager in supporting EHS efforts across multiple facilities in the assigned region. This position will work inside and outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree related to Occupational Safety, Environmental, or Natural Sciences; or equivalent work experience.
  • 1 – 3 years of direct experience with Workplace Safety in a heavy industry or manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of federal and state occupational health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular EHS inspections and, if needed, make necessary corrections to address any identified concerns.
  • Assist with incident response; actively participate in all injury, property and vehicular investigations; and assist in the compilation and submission of all internal and external incident reporting.
  • Participate in, and lead, EHS audits, self-assessments, and inspections.
  • Compile and maintain all EHS records and performance tracking in accordance with all applicable federal, state, local and company guidelines.
  • Deliver, and assist in the creation, of Safety and Environmental trainings to maintain the appropriate safety standards throughout the assigned facilities.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
  • Provide guidance to management and employees regarding the appropriate practices to remain compliance with all regulatory and company requirements.
  • Participate in the creation and submission of permit applications and reports as required by environmental agencies.
