Position Overview: This position provides environmental, health, and safety support and leadership to the site. Individual is accountable for: supporting EHS activities at said location; monitoring and maintaining EHS objectives and targets; internal reporting of EHS performance; communication of national and local regulatory requirements, and ensuring adherence to corporate and site specific EHS procedures. Position is responsible for: supporting the maintenance of site ISO/OSHA certifications; ensuring accurate and complete EHS reporting of metrics; ensuring closure of MESH and regulatory agency findings on a timely basis; support in EHS training development and delivery of material; assist EHS manager with site security program; managing interfaces with the public and governmental authorities with adverse findings and enforcement actions; adhering to emergency response plans; creating a strong EHS culture that engages employees throughout the site in EHS teams and processes. Requirements

  • Associates degree and 2+ years of EHS (Environmental Health & Safety, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental safety functional support experience OR Bachelors degree in occupational health and safety, environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, industrial engineering, environmental science, or safety engineering
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now and in the future.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of the facility listed will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation

Responsibilities

  • Assists EHS Manager in achieving EHS targets & objectives. Supports the development, maintenance, and achievement of goals in support of corporate and business group EHS strategic initiatives.
  • Facilitate risk assessment at the location to identify critical EHS hazards and aspects and support EHS Manager to create targets and objectives based on key EHS risks.
  • Inputs key data and monitors appropriate leading and lagging indicators to track performance against targets and objectives, driving continual improvement.
  • Supports creation of EHS goals for the site manager and appropriate activity-based goals for the leadership team, functional managers, and front-line supervisors to drive EHS culture, compliance, and results.
  • Supports the MESH element champions (MESH council) and facilitate their engagement in ownership of the MESH elements.
  • Drives and promotes zero incident EHS culture throughout site
  • Creates and facilitates EHS engagement through EHS teams and committees needed to accomplish the established targets and objectives for the year
  • Works with leadership team and MESH element champions to complete an annual evaluation of compliance for MESH and EHS country, state, and local regulations.
  • Enters monthly EHS KPIs into corporate database and monitors for accuracy and trends
  • Uses established EHS data processes such as MESH PRISM and Benchmark to manage data such as injuries and illnesses, environmental metrics, risk assessments, EHS action items and other pertinent information.
  • Collaborate with HR to maintain EHS training matrix to ensure that all training is defined and tracked to completion
  • Monitor the effectiveness and completion of key EHS operational controls (LOTO, startup check list, machine guarding, electrical safety, etc.) and ensure resolution on a timely basis.
  • Conduct new hired safety orientation and training and other safety training from time to time and as needed.
  • Lead Safety Committee meetings
  • Assist area leaders on incident investigations using the CI tools available (8D, A3).
  • Establish and implement Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs and procedures in accordance with-corporate guidelines, as well as EPA and OSHA regulations.
  • Review, revise, update, and maintain EHS records and document tracking and instruct in their use.
  • Assist EHS manager on the creation and submission of annual compliance program reports.
  • Serve as the Hazardous Waste Coordinator and manage storage and disposal of hazardous wastes and materials.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and collection as required by law.
  • Conduct EHS audits, document and report concerns and take steps to ensure compliance.
  • Manage EHS education through the development and implementation of a variety of training programs.
  • Oversee and coordinate facility inspection programs and review hazard complaints, incident reports, injuries and near misses and investigate causes; prepare reports and present information to the Safety Committee; identify areas of high injury and accident rates and develop safety programs to address them.
  • Assists EHS Manager in conducting research on emerging safety technologies and equipment, evaluate vendors and products, and provide recommendations for the procurement of safety solutions that enhance employee protection, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintains plant emergency response plans and ensures drills are performed to document plan effectiveness.
  • Maintaining the site Hazard Communication Program.
  • Assist EHS manager with the site’s plant’s environmental management system for MESH and maintain the sites ISO 14001 certification.
  • Special Projects and other duties as assigned
