About The Position

The EHR Specialist, Non-Clinical, supports the effective and efficient use of the electronic health record (EHR) system by providing hands-on technical support, troubleshooting, training, and service to employees, providers, and other system users. This position serves as a key resource for identifying and resolving EHR issues, assisting users with system functionality and workflows, and helping ensure the EHR supports safe, efficient, and effective patient care and business operations. The EHR Specialist assists with EHR configuration, workflow optimization, system testing, upgrades, and implementation of new functionality. The position develops and delivers training and education for staff and physicians, provides ongoing support and guidance, and works collaboratively with clinical, administrative, and IT teams to resolve issues and improve the user experience. The EHR Specialist may also assist with report development, system monitoring, data validation, and maintaining compliance with applicable state and federal requirements and organizational standards.

Requirements

  • BS in Data Analytics, Data Science, CIS or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Cerner
  • Experience in data abstraction, analytics, or management.
  • Familiarity with Power BI or similar data visualization and reporting tools.
  • Computer literate in basic software, internet use and databases.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex data.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, nurse, technicians and other co-workers.
  • Primary sedentary position of office work requiring long periods of sitting at a desk, computer use and answering the telephone.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.
  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
  • Vaccine records or evidence of immunity are required prior to 1st day of scheduled work.
  • Pre-employment drug screen which includes marijuana.

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day support of the process for clinical components of the EHR system.
  • Assists in updates and maintains assessments, orders and all other documentation screens for clinical components of the EHR system.
  • Coordinates testing of needed updates and assures appropriate training of staff and physicians of said updates.
  • Works flexible hours during Go-Live and/or updates, including nights and weekends.
  • Maintains current knowledge of legal, regulatory and practice standards as well as policies and procedures that are supported by clinical applications.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in applications supported.
  • Manages end-user education, issues and setup of applications including profile changes and parameter changes within the EHR System.
  • Assists in data/information extraction across all applications.
  • Develops ideas, formulates and implements needs for modifying EHR changes as needed.
  • Proactively identifies potential EHR related issues, identifies and implements solutions.
  • Review/builds/transition paper forms to electronic format.
  • Contributes to data mining and report writing as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
