EH&S Supervisor
About The Position
The EH&S Supervisor works with internal departments to create and enforce safety protocols and policies, supporting a safe environment across EnviroLogix. The role owns outsourced safety and facilities-based preventive maintenance and calibration processes, and directly leads the Facilities team, currently consisting of two individuals. The position oversees safety and compliance operations, including laboratory-specific safety protocols, regulatory compliance, risk assessments, safety documentation, emergency planning, inspections, audits, equipment, incident investigations, and waste management. It also guides the Facilities Technicians in maintaining the Portland, Maine campus, planning facilities projects and capital needs, and managing external contractors and contracts. The EH&S Supervisor provides safety training, supports continuous improvement and 5S compliance, maintains records, and develops team members. The role promotes safety, quality, and delivery excellence, leads the safety committee, and collaborates across the organization. At times, the role is expected to participate directly in production to support seasonal spikes.
Requirements
- Associate degree or higher; Occupational Health and Safety is preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in a Health and Safety and/or Facilities-related position.
- Positive work ethic and an ambitious, passionate attitude.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with internal departments to solve problems and address needs.

Nice To Haves
- Safety certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Safety Trained Supervisor (STS).
- Facilities familiarity; facilities expertise is not required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety protocols appropriate to laboratory activities.
- Enforce safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout, machine interlock, and machine guarding.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments of equipment, facilities, products, and processes, and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain the internal SDS reference library and SDSs for kit and component products; manage SDSs for internal chemicals and other substances.
- Help identify ergonomic risks, including repetitive tasks, improper work-area setup, and improper tool use.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans for chemical spills, fires, and other laboratory incidents in collaboration with the Facilities team.
- Ensure appropriate first-responder capabilities are maintained.
- Conduct internal safety inspections and manage external safety audits.
- Oversee procurement, maintenance, and appropriate use of safety equipment, including PPE, emergency eyewashes, and showers.
- Investigate and report incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions.
- Manage universal, hazardous, and biological waste, including support for transportation and records management.
- Ensure safety during 5S events and sustain safety practices during 5S audits.
- Inform and advise management about health, security, safety, and compliance matters or concerns.
- Guide the Facilities Technicians in maintaining the Portland, Maine campus, including maintenance, repairs, upkeep, and facilities upgrades.
- Create a facilities project roadmap and budget capital requirements for necessary maintenance and upgrades.
- Explain the cost-benefit of facilities needs and secure stakeholder buy-in and approval for investments.
- Manage external facilities and maintenance contractors and contracts, including quoting and payment.
- Provide training on safety procedures, equipment use, emergency response, and safety equipment.
- Deliver procedures and training for receiving and handling hazardous materials.
- Support ongoing improvement through safety sustainment practices and 5S compliance.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to safety protocols, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and delivery excellence across operational functions.
- Lead authentically and empathetically to build trust, open communication, and psychological safety.
- Develop and mentor teams, supporting engagement, retention, and continuous learning.
- Execute performance management processes, including goal setting, coaching, feedback, and development planning.
- Mentor and coach team members on safety awareness and best practices.
- Lead the safety committee and collaborate cross-functionally to strengthen safety capabilities.
- Support talent development initiatives that build a resilient and informed workforce.
- Participate directly in the production process at times to support seasonal spikes.
