About The Position

The EH&S Supervisor works with internal departments to create and enforce safety protocols and policies that maintain a safe environment. The role owns outsourced safety processes and facilities-based preventative maintenance and calibration processes, and directly leads the EnviroLogix Facilities team, currently consisting of two individuals. The position oversees safety and compliance across EnviroLogix, including laboratory risk assessments, regulatory compliance, safety inspections and audits, safety equipment, incident investigations, safety documentation, hazardous and biological waste, and emergency response planning. It also guides the facilities technicians in maintaining and upgrading the Portland, Maine campus, developing project roadmaps and capital budgets, and managing external facilities contractors and contracts. The supervisor provides safety training, supports continuous improvement and 5S compliance, and promotes a culture of safety, quality, and delivery excellence. Leadership responsibilities include mentoring and developing team members, managing performance, leading the safety committee, and collaborating across functions. The role may also participate directly in production during seasonal demand spikes. The anticipated salary range is $85,000–$105,000 per year. Salary decisions consider factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, position requirements, internal equity, and market data. Requirements

Associate degree or higher, preferably in Occupational Health and Safety.
At least 5 years of experience in a Health and Safety and/or Facilities-related position.
Positive work ethic and an ambitious, passionate attitude.
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and perform effectively under pressure.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with internal departments to solve problems and address needs.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to communicate verbally by phone and in person.

Nice To Haves

Safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Safety Trained Supervisor (STS).
Familiarity with facilities functions; facilities expertise is not required.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement safety protocols that account for risks associated with laboratory activities.
Enforce safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout, machine interlocks, and machine guarding.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations across EnviroLogix.
Conduct risk assessments of equipment, facilities, products, and processes, and implement preventive measures.
Maintain the internal SDS reference library and SDSs for kit and component products; manage SDSs for internal chemicals and other substances.
Help identify ergonomic risks related to repetitive tasks, work-area setup, and use of tools.
Develop and maintain emergency response plans for chemical spills, fires, and other laboratory incidents in collaboration with the facilities team.
Ensure EnviroLogix maintains proper first-responder capabilities.
Conduct internal safety inspections and manage external safety audits.
Oversee procurement, maintenance, and proper use of safety equipment, including PPE, emergency eyewashes, and showers.
Investigate and report incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions.
Manage universal, hazardous, and biological waste, including transportation support and records management.
Ensure safety during 5S events and sustain safety practices during 5S audits.
Inform and advise management about health, security, safety, and compliance matters and concerns.
Guide the facilities technicians in maintaining the Portland, Maine campus, including maintenance, repairs, upkeep, and upgrades.
Create a facilities project roadmap and budget capital requirements for maintenance and upgrades.
Explain the cost and benefit of facilities needs and obtain stakeholder approval for investments.
Manage external facilities and maintenance contractors and contracts, including quotations and payments.
Provide training on procedures, equipment use, emergency response, and safety equipment.
Deliver procedures and training for receiving and handling hazardous materials.
Support continuous improvement through safety sustainment practices and 5S compliance.
Maintain documentation and records related to safety protocols, inspections, and corrective actions.
Promote a culture of safety, quality, and delivery excellence across operational functions.
Develop and mentor teams, and execute performance management processes including goal setting, coaching, feedback, and development planning.
Lead the safety committee and collaborate across functions to strengthen safety capabilities.
Support talent development initiatives and coach team members on safety awareness and best practices.
Participate directly in the production process when needed to support seasonal demand spikes.
