About The Position

The EHS Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs and systems that promote operational excellence. This role works closely with site leadership to foster a proactive and engaged safety culture focused on risk reduction and loss prevention. The EHS Specialist assists in ensuring compliance with applicable legislative, corporate, and industry standards through effective program execution, monitoring, and follow-up. The role will provide support to both the Mississauga manufacturing facility and Brampton distribution center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university with a major in occupational safety, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant EHS experience, preferably in manufacturing or distribution environments.
  • Attention to detail and capability to analyze data and make sound conclusions.
  • Strong aptitude for organization, prioritization and managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to actively participate in team-oriented processes, influence team engagement and to drive team decision making to conclusions/solutions.
  • Knowledge of current safety and loss control practices is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Possess working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regulations, and applicable Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and ongoing administration of safety programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), WHMIS, Emergency Response, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, and other compliance-related programs.
  • Assist with Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) processes, including claims management, return-to-work coordination, and loss prevention initiatives.
  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) activities and maintain required certification.
  • Conduct incident investigations, document findings, support root cause analysis efforts, and assist in identifying corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance activities, including National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) reporting, hazardous waste management, Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA), and other applicable regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Deliver and support new-hire orientation and EH&S training programs.
  • Partner with site leadership and employees to promote a proactive EH&S culture focused on incident prevention, employee engagement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in developing and implementing site-specific EH&S objectives and action plans.
  • Monitor, maintain, and report EH&S performance metrics, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Conduct compliance assessments, inspections, and internal audits to support adherence to regulatory and company requirements.
  • Support site leadership in the implementation and closure of EH&S action items and operational controls.
  • Develop, deliver, and coordinate EH&S training materials and resources.
  • Maintain EH&S records, databases, reporting systems, and documentation.
  • Support incident investigation processes utilizing tools such as 5-Why root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
  • Coordinate required regulatory testing, training, industrial hygiene assessments, and other EH&S compliance activities as assigned.
