About The Position

Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service. This Adjunct Faculty position involves teaching at the undergraduate level, with assignments potentially on the main campus or online. The role includes planning and teaching assigned courses, preparing syllabi and instructional materials, coordinating lectures and tests, and providing professional mentoring to students. The successful candidate will use the Canvas teaching platform to manage courses, contribute to course and/or curriculum development if applicable, and function as an effective, active, and collegial team member. Additionally, the role involves working with the Communication Lab Director to promote and support public speaking events.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Communications or related field or 18 graduate hours in Communication from an accredited institution or equivalent accreditation
  • Promote a common purpose consistent with stated University goals and demonstrate a commitment to students and the learning environment
  • Possess the knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manual related to the job tasks
  • Demonstrate the ability to respond to supervision, guidance, and direction in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies
  • Provide quality student experience by creating a welcoming and supportive environment
  • Present a professional image in word, action, and attire
  • Apply effective techniques to create working relationships with others to achieve common goals; successfully communicates and collaborates with others to achieve goals
  • Demonstrate skills necessary to look at situations and processes critically to make recommendations for improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching at the University level
  • Experience in public speaking as well as teaching the theory and craft of public speaking

Responsibilities
