About The Position

Washington Regional Medical System is seeking a full-time Registered EEG Tech to join their Sleep Lab & EEG Services team. This role involves performing diagnostic neurophysiologic studies such as electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), long-term monitoring (LTM), and continuous EEG monitoring in intensive care settings (ICU/cEEG). The primary responsibilities include ensuring accurate data acquisition, patient safety and comfort, and thorough documentation to support physician interpretation. The position reports to the Manager, Sleep Lab & EEG Services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • CPR/BLS, required.
  • RST, RPSGT, or SDS, required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in EEG or a sleep lab, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education in neurodiagnostics, polysomnography, or a related allied health field, preferred.
  • Experience with long-term monitoring and/or inpatient/ICU workflows, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for testing; verify orders, patient identification, and pertinent clinical history.
  • Apply electrodes accurately using accepted placement systems (e.g., 10–20) and troubleshoot impedance/artifact issues throughout the study.
  • Conduct routine and extended EEG recordings (including LTM and ICU/cEEG) and continuously monitor waveforms, patient status, and equipment function to ensure high-quality recordings.
  • Document, annotate, and summarize studies per departmental standards; ensure data integrity and prepare complete records for physician interpretation.
  • Explain procedures to patients and families; obtain pertinent history within scope; position patients appropriately and maintain privacy, dignity, and comfort throughout testing.
  • Perform and document activation procedures and bedside interventions as ordered (e.g., photic stimulation, hyperventilation) and promptly recognize and escalate urgent findings/events per protocol (including seizure activity during LTM/ICU/cEEG).
  • Follow infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, use of PPE, and cleaning/disinfection or reprocessing of electrodes and equipment according to department policy and manufacturer guidance; follow isolation precautions as indicated.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot EEG/NCS equipment and software; complete required quality checks, calibrations, and basic preventive maintenance; report equipment concerns and ensure supplies are stocked and ready for use.
  • Collaborate with neurology providers, nursing, respiratory therapy, and other caregivers to coordinate testing and continuous monitoring; provide clear handoffs and communicate patient status, study progress, and technical issues during shift changes.
  • Adhere to patient safety practices and departmental/hospital policies, including safe patient handling, fall precautions, and protection of confidential information (HIPAA) in all verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  • Support department operations through teamwork, precepting/training as assigned, and participation in performance improvement activities; maintain required competencies and continuing education.
