About The Position

Works collaboratively with neurologists and epileptologists to review and interpret continuous EEG recordings, annotate findings, and support clinical decision-making for patients undergoing EEG monitoring. This role plays a critical part in identifying abnormal brain activity and supporting high-quality, safe, and effective patient care. The EEG reader will create preliminary monitoring reports based on technical and reporting standards determined by the Epilepsy providers and applicable law. Performs weekly and monthly audits on the consistency and technical accuracy of onsite monitoring done by our technologist staff. The hybrid portion of the position will consist of staffing the lab and EMU during vacations, extended illness, and to maintain technical skills and maintaining relevant competencies. Assists in the application and maintenance of relevant accreditations including but not limited to NAEC, ABRET EMU credential, ABRET EEG lab credential.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited electroneurodiagnostic program required
  • 5+ years experience in the neurodiagnostic field required
  • Strong knowledge of EEG waveforms, seizure types, and normal versus abnormal patterns. Ability to recognize and differentiate physiologic and non-physiologic artifacts.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with the patient, family, physician and other interdisciplinary staff in order to achieve optimum results.
  • Proficiency with EEG software systems (e.g., Natus or similar platforms).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the underlying principles of the physiologic neurodiagnostic measurements and analytical skills necessary to recognize technical problems with equipment and respond accordingly.
  • Position requires a high degree of patience for successful testing of often uncooperative subjects.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate effective time management.
  • CLTM Certification for Long-Term Monitoring
  • American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience or related field preferred
  • 2+ years experience in a level 4 epilepsy center that is also a level 1 trauma center with a pediatric population preferred
  • Membership in professional associations is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and evaluates continuous video EEG recordings.
  • Identifies, annotates, and documents normal and abnormal EEG patterns, seizure activity, and artifacts.
  • Edits EEG records and prepares accurate documentation for physician review. Creates preliminary monitoring reports based on technical and reporting standards determined by the Epilepsy providers and applicable law.
  • Presents EEG findings during daily rounds, including seizure frequency, duration, and trends. Assists in compiling EEG clips and summaries for case conferences and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Supports neurophysiology procedures such as electrocorticography, brain mapping, or intraoperative monitoring when applicable.
  • Collaborates with neurologists, epileptologists, nurses, and EEG technologists to support patient care and quality initiatives.
  • Maintains quality standards and follows institutional policies and regulatory requirements. Participates in education, training, and research-related activities as applicable. Stays up to date with current neurodiagnostic trends and developments and shares with team. Maintains technical skills and maintains relevant competencies. Assists in the application and maintenance of relevant accreditations including but not limited to NAEC, ABRET EMU credential, ABRET EEG lab credential.
  • Under direction of the leader, assists in the development of unit protocols, procedures, policies, and competencies. Will perform weekly and monthly audits on the consistency and technical accuracy of onsite monitoring done by technologist staff.
  • Participates in improvement initiatives for department and organization goals. Communicates and collaborates in a positive, effective manner towards the successful attainment of these goals by offering input, ideas and solutions utilizing the CHW Quality improvement (PDSA) model.
  • Creates the EMU reader monitor report and assists in technical audits. Staffs the lab and EMU during staffing deficits (vacations, extended illness, LOAs, and vacancy in the department).
