About The Position

The EEE Component Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing process improvements to ExoTerra’s component selection, procurement, and storage. In addition, the CE will maintain the integrity of all product line BOMs, coordinate with purchasing to keep up with production component demands, and will consult on cost, lead time, part availability, and any extraneous requirements for new potential contracts. This position works closely with cross-functional teams to support ExoTerra’s mission, technical objectives, and operational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of experience in component evaluation and selection, preferably in aerospace, defense, electronics, or other high‑precision industries.
  • Experience with aerospace or defense standards, including MIL‑STD, ASTM, ESA, and other relevant standards.
  • Proficiency with managing multiple product BOM’s, ensuring compliance with contractual and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrate competence in presenting component changes to customers with technical reasoning to support changes
  • Proficiency with Obsolescence Management tools like Silicon Experts.
  • Demonstrate competence in finding Alternate parts when needed by the design team or the purchasing team.
  • Ability to write test plans and evaluate test reports for components needing to be up-screened or analyzed for root cause failure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of various MIL Standards, ECSS Standards, and ESCC Standards applicable to component procurement and testing for different quality levels of space flight hardware.
  • Understanding of Material interactions and prohibitions as it pertains to EEE components.
  • Experience with creating engineering drawings for EEE components.
  • Experience working on various IPT’s to assess, test, and approve new parts on a qualified BOM.
  • Understanding of component failure modes by commodity.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems.
  • Basic understanding of Nuclear effects on EEE parts.
  • Basic understanding of worst-case analysis (WCA) / EEE parts derating and end of life requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly evaluate Product BOM’s for parts that have become obsolete, for single source parts, and for other high-risk concerns.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Inventory, Systems, and Quality groups to ensure parts fulfilling Contractual and ExoTerra Quality requirements are procured.
  • Assist the Design and Purchasing Teams with recommending and approving alternate parts for purchase.
  • Develop Best Practices for Component Procurement and Selection and enable the Design Team to make appropriate component selection.
  • Make Life Time Buy (LTB) decisions when approved components on Product BOM’s go obsolete.
  • Enable prompt and timely product delivery through collaboration with the different technical and administrative groups.
  • Ensure compliance with customer quality requirements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and best practices
  • Additional duties as assigned
