About The Position

As an RN Educator at Continuing Care Hospital, a 25-bed long-term acute care hospital located inside CHI Saint Joseph Hospital, you will be responsible for designing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based educational programs, orientations, and continuing education. Your role involves facilitating the professional growth, skill development, and competency of staff, ensuring these programs align with the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals. This position directly contributes to ensuring quality, safety, and service in patient and family-centered care. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong instructional design capabilities, expert clinical knowledge, and the ability to effectively engage and develop healthcare professionals, ultimately enhancing the standards of patient care. You will also serve as a clinical expert, an educator, foster the development of self and others, and act as a leader within the nursing staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Of Science Nursing
  • Minimum of 3 years as a Registered Nurse
  • Registered Nurse: KY, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within 90 Days
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support, within 6 months

Responsibilities

  • Design, organize, implement, and evaluate evidence-based educational programs, orientations, and continuing education.
  • Facilitate the professional growth, skill development, and competency of staff.
  • Ensure educational programs primarily support the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
  • Contribute to ensuring quality, safety, and service in patient and family-centered care.
  • Demonstrate strong instructional design capabilities, expert clinical knowledge, and the ability to effectively engage and develop healthcare professionals.
  • Serve as a role model to Nursing Staff in the delivery of excellent patient care for designated patient populations.
  • Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary colleagues to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate strategies to address complex patient care issues.
  • Assist staff with clinical decision-making and priority setting.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Leadership to develop, evaluate, and implement standards of patient care /care planning and professional practice with attention to quality, service, cost-effectiveness, comfort, safety, age-specific implications, and cultural competence.
  • Serve as a patient/family advocate, incorporating respect for and acknowledgement of cultural diversity and individual patient needs.
  • Maintain and integrate current evidenced-based knowledge into educational programming.
  • Promote an environment consistent with the core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care, and demonstration of the core values.
  • Facilitate the ongoing education and professional development of the nursing staff and students.
  • Coordinate orientation of newly hired nursing department employees to the organization.
  • Plan, prepare, and maintain materials for use in competency-based educational programs, utilizing current standards, regulations, and validated evidenced-based research.
  • Plan and coordinate in-services, orientation, and educational programs for clinical staff to meet competency requirements in accordance with departmental objectives and appropriate accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate in the development or modification of patient education materials as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with RN Educator IIs across the system to develop learning needs assessments for clinical staff and programs and competency strategies to address identified learning needs.
  • Incorporate principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education and competency programs.
  • Participate in learning technologies via simulation, LMS, virtual classroom, and multimedia.
  • Communicate effectively in visual, oral, and written form and demonstrate effective presentation skills.
  • Assist in the fiscal and administrative operations through cost-effective use of resources, and participation in revenue-generating activities identified for the department and the organization.
  • Facilitate initial provider and renewal courses for BLS, ACLS, PALS.
  • Cooperate in the facilitation of departmental orientation and conducts a variety of in-service, orientation, and educational programs for clinical staff to meet competency assessment requirements in accordance with departmental objectives and accreditation standards, including but not limited to: Orientation; Initial and Ongoing Competencies; Core Curriculum; Required Certification Courses, Professional Development Program and Preceptor/Mentor Programs.
  • Maintain involvement in professional, community, and clinical specialty activities.
  • Role model customer service.
  • Collaborate and support clinical student rotations.
  • Collaborate with RN Educator II colleagues to incorporate current research findings into educational activities, and supports and demonstrates evidence-based practice.
  • Challenge existing practice when not aligned with current best practices.
  • Maintain affiliation with professional nursing organizations.
  • Obtain and maintain professional certification.
  • Foster attainment of professional certification for bedside nursing staff through mentoring, classes, programs, and study groups.
  • Promote the concept of lifelong learning.
  • Strive for congruence between educational activities and organization mission and goals.
  • Demonstrate support for professional organizations and excellence in professional practice.
  • Serve as a professional role model.
  • Integrate ethical principles in all areas of clinical practice.
