The Educational Developmental Assistant (EDA) Meal is responsible for ensuring that prescribed diets for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks are prepared and served on schedule, at the correct temperatures, and with the prescribed individualized textures. This role acts as a lead trainer in the kitchen, focusing on the meal program to help individuals develop independence in skills such as meal preparation, dining, kitchen safety, food texturizing, and grocery storage. The EDA Meal provides specialized instructional training, activities, and mentoring to support staff in kitchen and dining environments. This role assists teachers and active treatment coordinators in assessing individual strengths, needs, and preferences to develop effective training objectives and activities. The EDA Meal serves as a positive and supportive role model for individuals and support staff, assisting them with learning how to conduct training programs or generalize skills related to dining and domestic activities. Accurate documentation of progress is maintained. The EDA Meal also prepares meals according to seasonal menus and individualized recommendations from registered dietitians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physicians, and other health professionals. Weekly grocery inventories are completed to align with menu needs, and input is provided for ongoing program needs and improvement.
