About The Position

This is a part-time, 0.875 FTE/ 7 hours per day position working on the CL-192 (192 days per full school year) schedule, Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. The position performs a variety of clerical tasks in support of and preparation for the educational process as well as duties of instructional assistance to the teacher in a classroom setting. It facilitates the smooth operation of the educational program in one or more classes by attending to details which free the teacher to develop a comprehensive lesson schedule. It aids in preserving the unity of classroom advancement by tutoring students who have difficulty comprehending or who are in need of emphasis on specific aspects of the instructional program. It prepares, disseminates, collects, processes and stores or redistributes instructional materials used in class. In some instances, the position may be required to adapt curriculum to students who understand and speak little English.

Requirements

  • Meet Highly Qualified status, defined by state of Oregon ORS 581-037-0006.

  • Official or Unofficial transcripts with your name, showing 2 years of post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours or 48 semester credits.
  • Obtaining an associates or higher degree (attach diploma).
  • Meeting a rigorous standard of testing through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics (attach test scores).
  • Ability to work with and lead students in group and individual activities.
  • Instructional and behavioral management skills.
  • Ability to use current office technology and equipment (e.g., computer systems, fax, copiers, etc.).
  • Ability to use or learn to use computers and word processing software.
  • Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of clerical tasks in support of and preparation for the educational process as well as duties of instructional assistance to the teacher in a classroom setting.
  • Facilitates the smooth operation of the educational program in one or more classes by attending to details which free the teacher to develop a comprehensive lesson schedule.
  • Aids in preserving the unity of classroom advancement by tutoring students who have difficulty comprehending or who are in need of emphasis on specific aspects of the instructional program.
  • Prepares, disseminates, collects, processes and stores or redistributes instructional materials used in class.
  • May adapt curriculum to students who understand and speak little English.
  • Confers with teacher and assists in preparation of lessons appropriate to level of instruction; reviews coverage and comprehension of subject matter and administers tests.
  • Monitors and supervises students engaged in activities initiated by the teacher.
  • Records students progress and behavior.
  • Collects, sorts and corrects lessons and tests; records grades in ledger; redistributes as necessary; files classroom materials.
  • Tutors on a one-to-one or small group basis as necessary; assigns extra work for quick learners and assists in remediation and completion of assignments by slow-learning students.
  • Prepares lessons and instructs students on specific topics such as: teaching them how to write their names, then numbers, then the letters of the alphabet and eventually words and sentences; corrects posture when writing, best positioning of pencil and paper and correct formation of each letter and number.
  • May prepare spelling, capitalization and punctuation lessons appropriate to level of instruction, review coverage of materials and administer tests.
  • May assemble testing materials and administer CTBS and other standardized tests to class.
  • Composes and formats homework assignments, charts, posters, memos, newsletters and other items as requested by the teacher.
  • Prepares classroom materials using current office technology and equipment (e.g., computer systems, fax, copiers, etc.) and production equipment (e.g., fax, punching and binding machine, laminator).
  • Assists in the preparation, typing and layout of such documents as the school newspaper, minutes for staff meetings and parent newsletters.
  • Assists in the health room when the nurse is absent by bandaging minor scrapes, bumps and bruises, handing out ice packs, or attending to more serious injuries while a nurse or doctor is called.
  • Supervises lunchroom, classroom, hallways, and recess yards so that an orderly atmosphere is preserved; controls aggressive behavior, settles disputes and otherwise encourages well-mannered activity.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies for teacher; completes purchase orders for additional materials and stocks shelves with new supplies.
  • May perform tasks specific to the attendance and registration of students such as roll call, parent contact of absent students, and weekly mailing of attendance roster to Data Processing Department.
  • Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
