About The Position

The Educational Advisor will recruit and enroll eligible participants, provide academic and career guidance, and support students throughout their higher education journey. This role involves working closely with students, parents, school staff, and community partners to ensure student success and program compliance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, or related field.
One year of experience advising, counseling, or teaching disadvantaged/less-represented students.

Responsibilities

Recruit and enroll eligible participants, including conducting informational meetings, reviewing applications, and verifying eligibility.
Advise and champion for students needs individually and in groups on academic success strategies, college admissions, financial aid, career planning, and post-secondary transition.
Monitor and track 12th-grade participants to ensure successful college enrollment and persistence, extending support through their higher education journey.
Meet with parents and guardians to intake program participants, discuss student progress, implement strategies for student success, and complete the FAFSA.
Assess student needs, develop individualized action plans, and provide academic interventions.
Refer students and families to social, health, and community resources as needed.
Oversee after-school operations and develop academic, cultural, and recreational activities (e.g., tutoring, college visits, workshops, summer programs).
Plan and implement workshops for students and parents on college readiness, financial aid, and career pathways.
Teach the College Success course during the summer program, wherein students complete materials for their college ePortfolio.
Help collect, enter, and maintain student data for program assessment and the Annual Performance Report (APR) for the U.S. Department of Education, and assist in preparing the APR and other compliance documentation.
Supervise and occasionally transport students during program activities, including overnight events.
Work closely with high school staff, Upward Bound team members, and community partners to align services with student needs.
Maintain confidential student records and ensure program compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Support broader Upward Bound initiatives, including staff training, committee participation, and community events.
Occasionally supervise tutors, temporary staff, and student workers.
