About The Position

The Department of Medicine is seeking a full time, Education/Training Spec III. Duties and responsibilities will be performed under the direct guidance of the Assistant and Associate Directors of Healthcare Administration. This position will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of EMR training across the Department of Medicine’s ambulatory clinics. Working closely with faculty, clinicians, and departmental leadership, the trainer will craft engaging instruction that aligns with institutional goals, while continuously monitoring and improving program effectiveness. This role blends instructional design, project management, and clinical practice expertise to ensure our health information workforce remains current, competent, and confident in EMR technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 3 years EPIC end-user experience in an academic health center ambulatory clinic.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workflows, templates, and smart phrases.
  • Experience participating in EPIC ambulatory go-lives and physician/provider on-boarding.
  • Certification as an EPIC trainer.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessments to evaluate practice objectives, technology gaps, and user proficiency levels, both proactively during on-boarding and system upgrades, and reactively on an as-needed individual basis.
  • Be present in all facilities to maintain end-user understanding of physical and technical workflows to better inform training and issue resolution.
  • Construct, deliver, and refine in-person workshops, quick reference guides, and self-paced e-learning courses that address both task-oriented workflows and broader optimization of EPIC utilization.
  • Vet all external training tools and instructional materials to confirm they are ready for “elbow support,” thereby preventing interruptions to clinical work.
  • Measure training impact against defined learning outcomes and apply data-driven insights to refine training curriculum, methods, and timing intervals.
  • Share metrics and performance with departmental leadership to ensure all objectives are met and maintained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
