About The Position

The Education Training Coordinator roles include those of a practitioner, educator, leader, researcher, and consultant. As a knowledgeable practitioner, the Orientation Coordinator demonstrates positive behavior and the ability to perform ongoing clinical assessment of the patient, establishes and implements a plan of care and evaluates the outcome of that care, utilizing the nursing process. As an educator, the Orientation Coordinator demonstrates behavior which includes assessing the orientation and educational needs of all levels of nursing staff, establishes and implements plans, and evaluates orientation and educational outcomes. As a leader, the Orientation Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the mission, vision, and values of the Meridian Health System are integrated with all aspects of the orientation and staff development structures and processes. As a researcher, the Orientation Coordinator utilizes the research process to promote quality patient care and to promote evidence-based practices related to staff development, orientation, and education. As a consultant, the Orientation Coordinator collaborates with nursing staff and managers to maximize the effectiveness of all aspects of the staff development enterprise.

Requirements

  • BSN and MSN required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing clinical care required
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License required
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of nursing education experience preferred
  • Nursing specialty certification (e.g. RN-BC (Adult, Geriatric, Neonatal, Pediatric, Oncology), CEN, CCRN, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Maintains clinical competencies in area of specialty.
  • Functions as an expert clinical resource in assisting staff in new or complex patient care interventions.
  • Promotes accurate administration of medications according to the Eight Rights and Four Checks of Medication Administration.
  • Identifies areas requiring clinical study for performance improvements and participates as needed.
  • Articulates and demonstrates the role of the Orientation Coordinator to nursing staff, administrators, physicians, and the community.
  • Influences the activities of an individual or group toward goal setting and achievement by serving as a role model.
  • Accepts referrals from all units of the hospital and collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team in patient care planning.
  • Participates in the interview and hiring process for nurses and other staff as needed.
  • Evaluates staff at three-month and yearly performance appraisals as directed.
  • Performs activities related to leadership responsibilities.
  • Supports the research process and utilizes the information to support evidence-based care.
  • Represents nursing practice on system-wide Patient Education Committee.
  • Promotes knowledge of and compliance with regulatory requirements related to Patient Safety.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
