About The Position

The Provincial Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit (PCAPU) interdisciplinary team provides inpatient psychiatric services to children and youth aged 5 to 17 years. As a member of this team, the Education Support Teacher (EST) will provide educational services to children and youth admitted to the PCAPU. The EST will liaise with Anglophone and Francophone families and school teams across New Brunswick. The EST will collect and assimilate student information and present academic and behavioural profiles to the PCAPU team. The EST will collaborate and contribute to individual case conceptualizations and educational recommendations.

Requirements

  • NB Teaching Certificate and five (5) years teaching experience with a continuing contract or equivalent
  • M.Ed in Exceptionalities and/or additional training
  • Level B Assessment Credentials and experience with standardized testing including the WIAT 3 and Key-Math 2
  • Written and spoken proficiency in French is required
  • Strong knowledge of RTI, Inclusion, PBIS, School Review, Formative Assessment and ESS Team processes
  • Evidence of collaborative leadership with teachers at the school/district level
  • Experience in trauma informed care
  • Experience working with students with diverse needs
  • Strong organizational skills and experience with the New Brunswick Instructional Coaching Model
  • Strong data analysis skills to support goal and action development, interventions.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific knowledge of mental health disorders and comorbid conditions is an asset.
  • High level of technical computer skills an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Collect academic and behavioural information from families and school teams
  • Provide weekly updates to the PCAPU Clinical Coordinator and interdisciplinary team
  • Participate in case conferences and actively collaborate with the PCAPU team to discuss academic profiles, personalized interventions, behaviour protocols, educational recommendations, etc.
  • Design and implement a flexible learning environment that meets the academic, social emotional and behavioural needs of each child or youth
  • Collaborate with families and school teams to support continuity of learning
  • Apply positive behavioural interventions and supports that effectively diffuse and manage escalating behaviours and/or crisis situations
  • Ensure interactions and interventions incorporate trauma informed practices and care
  • Able to perform duties independently with minimal supervision
  • Adhere to the practices and policies of Horizon Health Network in regard to privacy, confidentiality, and unit specific guidelines
