About The Position

The Education Specialist will be responsible for scheduling inmates for testing, coordinating materials and test sites, monitoring examinees, scoring tests, converting and interpreting results, recording findings, drafting reports, counseling examinees, determining the need for further testing, recommending program placements and instructional plans, meeting with academic instructors, inventorying and ordering test materials, securing testing materials and records, managing the testing office, and responding to correspondence regarding examinees. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is a tobacco-free workplace. Pre-employment drug testing and a criminal background check are required. Requirements

  • Current Teacher Certificate in area of specialization issued by the Ohio Department of Education
  • 12 months of experience in teaching and/or education administration
  • Baccalaureate degree or less (for Education Specialist 1)
  • Ability to clearly describe how you meet the minimum qualifications in the online application

Nice To Haves

  • Education Specialist 2 requires a baccalaureate degree & 20 additional quarter hrs. but less than a master’s degree
  • Education Specialist 3 requires a master’s degree
  • Education Specialist 4 requires a master’s degree & 30 hrs. of post-graduate study
  • Completion of graduate core requirements in education (alternative to experience requirement)

Responsibilities

  • Schedules inmates for testing
  • Coordinates materials and test site within the testing setting
  • Monitors examinees to ensure compliance with instructions and norms of testing administration
  • Scores test, converts and interprets test results
  • Records findings on paper and electronically
  • Drafts paper and electronic reports and summaries of individual and group test performance
  • Counsels examinees based on test results
  • Determines the need for further specialized testing
  • Recommends individual program placements and instructional plans for examinees based upon test performances
  • Meets with academic instructors to plan appropriate strategies for the students
  • Inventories and orders test materials
  • Assures testing materials and records are secured
  • Manages testing office
  • Responds to correspondence regarding the examinees with institution and public schools
