About The Position

The Education Specialist position at the Cascades East Area Health Education Center (CEAHEC) within St. Charles Health System, is responsible for the design and delivery of all education programs offered by Cascades East Area Health Education Center. The Cascades East Area Health Education Center works with 10-12 high schools within Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson counties. This position provides provides a variety of occasional programming to the 50+ high schools in the 7 county area served by Cascades East Area Health Education Center. The goal of all educational offerings by Cascades East Area Health Education Center is to increase the diversity of and distribution of health care professionals in rural, frontier and under-served areas. The position also manages the independent job shadow process for non-high school adults. This position does not directly manage other caregivers, however may be asked to review and provide feedback on the work of other caregivers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, education or related field
  • Teaching License
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and meet SCHS driving requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years classroom experience in science, health, CTE or related fields
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
  • Experience in writing science and health-related curriculum for a variety of ages and skill levels.
  • Creative use of materials on a limited budget.
  • Flexibility in programming- easily adapts to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Excellent public speaking skills and ability to deliver educational content to diverse audience.
  • Clear communication within CEAHEC and participating SCHS caregivers.
  • Willing to travel throughout the region and to all SCHS worksites.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, lifting 1-10 pounds, keyboard operation.
  • Bending, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, carrying/pushing or pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing.
  • Stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 11-15 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.
  • No Risk for Exposure to BBP.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in Education, Public Policy, Public Health or similar field.
  • Teaching License in Oregon
  • 7-10 years at the middle school, high school or community college level in similar fields.
  • Experience in curriculum design and implementation.
  • Experience as a leader within academic settings.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, implements, and delivers health careers education programs and activities as defined by the CEAHEC team and regional needs assessment. Current formal programs include Health Occupations, Diagnosis Days and Camp MedStars.
  • Develops and nurtures community partnerships for the purpose of supporting and delivering educational and academic programs.
  • Coordinates scheduling for education programs and activities.
  • Demonstrates best educational practice skills in teaching and presentation; stays current on use of educational technologies for distance program delivery.
  • Coordinates evaluation process for programs and records evaluation data.
  • Works with CEAHEC outside evaluators in providing data collection for larger evaluation purposes.
  • Follows budget and resource guidelines for educational offerings and programs.
  • Maintains grant tracking records, assists with grant writing and fund-raising as necessary.
  • Represents CEAHEC (and SCHS) on regional, academic and health care career collaborations- including the Central Oregon STEM Hub; Better Together; Let’s Talk Diversity Coalition.
  • Designs new training programs, new community health or outreach programs as needed.
  • Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.
  • Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
