About The Position

The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families (CHCF) aims to improve child and family outcomes by closing the achievement gap and building a better future for children, families, and communities served by the Head Start program. CHCF, EHS, and the Office of Head Start recognize family child care as a valuable profession within New York City's early care and education system. The Education Specialist will support and enhance existing family child care programs, focusing on continuous and responsive relationships, early learning skills, resilience, and foundational learning. The primary responsibility is to build strengths-based relationships with providers, offering support for implementing high-quality, play-based instruction.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching children under six (required).
  • Willingness to travel within FCC Network catchment areas (Bronx & Brooklyn).
  • Time management skills are essential.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Appreciation for the unique needs of all providers and families.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or Infant/Toddler studies (preferred).
  • Experience working in Family Child Care and/or with infants and toddlers (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with FCC Education Director, FCC Family Advocates, and FCC Monitors to meet the needs of all children and families.
  • Adapts and provides guidance to affiliated providers on implementing an evidence-based curriculum for mixed-age group settings that meet individual child needs.
  • Reviews and adopts appropriate curriculum support and documents with affiliated providers, fostering hands-on, developmentally appropriate, and relationship-based interactions with children.
  • Assists affiliated providers in gathering child observations and entering child assessment data in a timely manner, supporting its use for curriculum and lesson planning.
  • Documents all coaching sessions aligned with the Office of Head Start and Early Childhood Framework for Quality (EFQ).
  • Assists in ongoing outreach, enrollment, and other administrative tasks.
  • Supports the FCC Education Director in coordinating all required professional learning days throughout the year.
  • Maintains relationships with community partners providing mental health, special needs, and other support services for affiliate providers and families.
  • Creates and regularly updates the Community Partner Resource Guide within the FCC Network.
  • Participates in twice-monthly FCC Network staff meetings to discuss individual providers and families, and to coordinate services.
  • Participates in Network staff professional learning sessions.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the FCC Education Director.
