About The Position
Alpha Public Schools is a network of four public charter schools committed to providing access to an outstanding education for students in TK-12th grade. Founded by families in East San José, Alpha aims to prepare the next generation of leaders. The school system educates approximately 1,900 scholars in east San Jose, guided by the belief that students belong in college. The Education Specialist (Inclusive Pathways) oversees an extensive needs learning space (Center for Learning and Inclusive Pathways) within an inclusive school environment, upholding high expectations and using student data to drive instruction and ensure scholar growth. Educators are expected to amplify and celebrate diverse experiences, provide access to instruction for all students by responding to socio-emotional needs, supporting literacy development, using culturally responsive instructional strategies, and accommodating individual learning differences.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree
- A valid (or eligible for via transcript credits/CSET exams/work experience) California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in the Specialty Area of Extensive Needs (preferred) or Mild to Moderate Support Needs
- Subject matter knowledge and strong classroom management skills
- A commitment to working with students in traditionally underserved communities.

Responsibilities
- Serve as a special education teacher, which includes creating lesson plans based on provided curricula (including alternate curricula), planning assessments, grading and maintaining a gradebook, and supporting a small classroom of learners
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure consistent implementation of IEPs across all school environments
- Manage a safe and rigorous extensive needs classroom setting, including oversight of paraprofessional duties and coordination of providers
- Utilize assessment results, both formal and informal, to develop legally defensible and data-driven IEPs and facilitate IEP meetings
- Provide specialized academic instruction to identified students with disabilities who meet the eligibility criteria established by federal and state law
- Provide pull out, push in, and/or consultative specialized academic instruction for students with extensive needs
- Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with special education laws, as well as school policies and procedures
- Participate in regular and on-going professional development, observations, and feedback sessions
