About The Position
The Education Specialist - Inclusive Education role focuses on enhancing the success of special education students in core academic subjects. This position aims to alleviate teachers' administrative burdens by managing clerical tasks and providing support to students with special healthcare needs. The specialist will work directly with students to implement instructional programs, assist with daily care, and ensure a supportive learning environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Pre-employment proficiency test
- Criminal Justice/fingerprint clearance
- Ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English
Responsibilities
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher
- Administers tests
- Assists special education students requiring daily care, (e.g. toileting, feeding, etc.)
- Attends Individual Education Program meetings wtih assigned student(s)
- Confers with teachers and/or parents as may be required
- Implements instructional programs and lesson plans, (e.g. reading, math, language, comprehension, writing, computer, etc.)
- Instructs students (individual or small groups), (e.g. reading, spelling, self esteem, behavioral skills, daily living skills, etc.)
- Maintains classroom equipment, work areas, student files/records, (e.g. clean up after various class projects, entering grades, adapting instructional materials, audiovisual equipment, etc.)
- Monitors and assists special education students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments, (e.g. classrooms, rest rooms, hallways, cafeteria, labs, field trips, on/off buses, etc.)
- Participates in in-service workshops and training
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions, (e.g. scheduling, copying, instructional materials, correcting papers, compiling list, etc.)
- Picks up and/or delivers homework/assignments to students at home
- Provides documentation of students' work
- Responds to emergency situations, (e.g. injured students, fights, etc.)
- Assists other personnel as may be required
