About The Position

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is seeking an Education Specialist II, Bilingual (Elementary Educator Programs) to deliver culturally relevant education programs for PreK-12th grade educators and field trip groups, with a focus on elementary educators. This role involves assisting in program design, coordinating education projects, and supervising volunteers and interns. The position requires performing core activities in both English and Spanish, and candidates will undergo a Spanish language proficiency test. Requirements

Fluent bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal skills required.
Able to teach and present existing lesson plans and evaluations in both Spanish and English.
Able to answer participant questions in both Spanish and English.
Able to recruit for programs in both Spanish and English.
Able to communicate with guardians and educators about program logistics in both Spanish and English.
Able to converse with guardians and participants about medical needs and educational accommodations in both Spanish and English.
Able to converse with other staff educators about program adjustments in both Spanish and English.
Fluent bilingual (English/Spanish) written proficiency required.
Able to read and follow lesson plans and slides in both Spanish and English.
Able to modify slides in both Spanish and English.
Able to write and respond to emails in both Spanish and English.
Culturally coherent in Spanish-speaking cultures required.
Able to understand cultural implications tied to language.
Two or more years of experience facilitating educational activities with PK - 12 students.
Demonstrated success building and maintaining positive learning environments, including strong team building skills and classroom management.
Able to write clearly, concisely, and fluently in English.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in natural science, formal or informal education, curriculum, youth or educator development; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Teaching credential or proof of formal teacher training.
Strong understanding of marine science content and integrated STEAM educational practices.
Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core State Standards, teaching methods, and youth development strategies.
Familiarity with Monterey Bay natural history, as well as marine and basic science.
Experience and comfort in the use of technology as an educational tool with students, including but not limited to iPad apps, Google Suite, and web-based educational tools.
Extensive experience integrating STEAM, including experience training other educators in technology integration and maker tools.

Responsibilities

Lead existing short-term and long-term educational sessions for PK-12 students and educators.
Develop expertise in program topics and gather necessary learning materials.
Recommend and implement modifications to learning tools based on audience needs and research.
Facilitate in-person and online activities, including presentations and engaging students.
Build and maintain a positive, culturally responsive program environment.
Collaborate with colleagues to create, test, and iterate short- and long-term programs.
Conduct front-end audience evaluation and research.
Identify and acquire necessary curriculum, program agendas, and materials.
Include culturally responsive education strategies in program development.
Identify, schedule, and coordinate the acquisition of project supplies and resources.
Gather, enter, and maintain program participant demographic and attendance data.
Lead educational activities at program recruitment events.
Support leads in program application review and acceptance, focusing on equity.
Stay informed on the latest science, research, and academic standards in STEM education.
Supervise program assistants, interns, and/or volunteers in program delivery.
Become familiar with program budget and accounting processes.
Implement existing evaluation tools, ensuring protocols are maintained.
Represent the department, division, and Aquarium at meetings, events, and conferences.
Develop relationships with program participants, community members, and other educators.
