About The Position

Education Reporter Are you excited about finding and spotlighting narratives of extraordinary, standout students? Are you driven to chronicle educators who are pursuing the most innovative approaches to teaching? Can you analyze and tell the real economic and social impacts of quality school districts on their communities? If you answered any of these questions with a yes, please apply to become the next education reporter at The Times of Northwest Indiana. Schools and quality education are the lifeblood of most communities, and the major metro area of Northwest Indiana is no exception. Indiana's Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties make up a significant part of greater suburban Chicago, and they represent a diversity of urban core industrial communities and suburban cities and towns home to many commuters. The area has grown in population for the past several years while many suburban Illinois communities — and Chicago itself — have lost population. Quality school districts in Northwest Indiana are a bit part of that growth equation, and we're seeking a competitive, driven reporter to help tell that story. Northwest Indiana also is home to some struggling school districts, and journalism documenting those challenges is equally as important as hailing school system successes. An education reporter at The Times will have an array of opportunities to dive into the diversity that is our public and private K-12 school system while also covering important higher education issues at Purdue University Northwest, Indiana University Northwest, Valparaiso University, Ivy Tech and other institutions of higher learning. If you strive to tell "people stories" and are driven to highlight education wins while also holding our education system accountable, we want to hear from you. EOE
