The Times of Northwest Indiana is seeking an Education Reporter. This role involves finding and spotlighting narratives of extraordinary, standout students, chronicling educators who are pursuing innovative teaching approaches, and analyzing the real economic and social impacts of quality school districts on their communities. The position is based in Northwest Indiana, a major metro area encompassing Lake, Porter, and LaPorte Counties, which are significant parts of greater suburban Chicago. This region has experienced population growth, partly attributed to its quality school districts, but also faces challenges in some areas that require journalistic documentation. An education reporter at The Times will have diverse opportunities to cover the public and private K-12 school systems, as well as important higher education issues at institutions such as Purdue University Northwest, Indiana University Northwest, Valparaiso University, and Ivy Tech. The ideal candidate is driven to tell "people stories," highlight education successes, and hold the education system accountable.
