About The Position

This position is an anticipated vacancy within the Office of Early Learning's Director's support for statewide projects and activities. The role focuses on the identification, development, and implementation of programs that support evidence-informed practices in early literacy, early mathematics, and social-emotional development for children from preschool through grade 3. Key functions include communication, resource material development, professional development delivery, technical assistance, and systems-level coaching at regional and district levels.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, and policies related to Read to Achieve and Early Education within the Preschool – Grade 5 continuum.
  • Knowledge of evidence-informed literacy practices aligned to the Science of Reading.
  • Experience conducting professional development virtually and in-person.

Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of identification/development, implementation, and state-wide scaling-up of the state’s efforts to support early literacy, early mathematics and social-emotional development in Preschool through Grade 3.
  • Collaborate with regional and district systems and structures, such as Regional Support Teams, and Regional Education Service Alliances, to build statewide capacity for successful scale-up and sustainability of early education initiatives aligned with Read to Achieve.
  • Collaborate with other NC Department of Public Instruction offices, state agencies, and external stakeholders to support related early education initiatives.
  • Mentor and coach nineteen Early Literacy Specialist in the Northeast region, focusing on aligned communication and support related to Science of Reading/LETRS implementation and sustainability across North Carolina.
  • Serve on and support the work of the State Regional Support Team within their assigned State Board of Education region.
  • Provide early childhood expertise as the team analyzes data and plans support for LEAs, which includes the provision of technical assistance, professional development, and systems-level coaching related to identified priorities.
  • Collect recent, relevant, and actionable data pertaining to early education initiative usability testing and implementation to support practice-informed policy development and rapid and long-term improvement cycles.
  • Collect data to inform the alignment of early education efforts with current systems in districts and at the regional/state level.
