About The Position

Support the teaching team to deliver a high-quality learning environment for children and families. This role involves assisting in the implementation of lesson plans, facilitating classroom instruction, and preparing materials. The assistant will also engage with families to encourage their role as the child's first teacher and participate in team meetings to develop culturally appropriate lesson plans for children aged birth to five. Additionally, the position supports wrap-around caregiver services, community resource referrals, and caregiver/keiki assessments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian culture and values.
• Three (3) months experience working with young children ages birth through five (5) in an educational setting.
• Some experience working with families and individuals in a caregiving capacity.
• Basic working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel) and Google Drive (Meetings, Docs, Sheets, Calendar).
• Valid driver’s license.
• A safe and responsible driving record.
• Consistent and reliable attendance.
• Awareness and attentiveness to program participants.
• Ability to analyze and problem-solve issues.
• Ability to prioritize and focus on multiple tasks that require analysis and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Flexibility to the daily needs of families and program.
• Ability to take responsibility and ownership for successfully accomplishing work and the organization’s objectives and delivering results.

Responsibilities

• Support the teaching team with proper setup and breakdown of site, co-teach lessons, and prepare materials.
• Assist in the implementation of lesson plans, facilitate classroom instruction and learning experiences at program sites.
• Assist with monthly field trips.
• Model, teach, and engage with enrolled families in a professional manner that encourages caregivers to be their keiki’s first and foremost teacher.
• Participate in team meetings to implement high-quality, culturally appropriate lesson plans for keiki ages birth-five years old.
• Assist in the implementation of curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant for children and caregivers.
• Assist in wrap-around caregiver support, assistance with community resources and referrals, and support with caregiver/keiki assessments, when needed.
• Complete all forms and documentations such as reports related to grant objectives, professional development evaluations, and data collection for the program.
