About The Position

American Conservation Experience (ACE), in partnership with the National Park Service and Redwood National & State Parks (RNSP), is seeking two Education Members. These members will connect with visitors alongside RNSP staff, interpreting the national significance of redwood forests and other park resources. They will inform the public about regulations, compliance, and safety, and facilitate shared learning experiences. Education Members will work alongside frontline NPS education and interpretation rangers, staffing visitor center information desks, conducting visitor contacts and roving interpretation in high-use areas and along trails, and developing and leading educational and interpretive programs. This role is intended to facilitate professional development, promote exposure to land management agencies, and foster networking with conservation and public lands management professionals. Members will also shadow other park divisions to gain a comprehensive understanding of park operations.

Requirements

• Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts.
• Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
• Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
• A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
• Willing to undergo and must pass the required three-part criminal history check.
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
• ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.
• Member may not participate in any prohibited activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement or as defined by AmeriCorps.
• Must be able to perform duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.

Responsibilities

• Staff visitor center information desks and provide orientation, trip planning assistance, and visitor information.
• Conduct visitor contacts and roving interpretation in high-use areas and along designated trails.
• Develop and present formal and informal educational and interpretive programs, including guided hikes, pop-up programs, and educational activities.
• Answer phone and email inquiries and assist with public communications.
• Support educational groups, special events, and special use activities as assigned.
• Develop content for park social media platforms and assist with other education projects.
• Work collaboratively with National Park Service and California State Parks staff in visitor centers, campgrounds, and program settings.
• Participate in training, professional development opportunities, and cross-divisional learning experiences to gain a broader understanding of park operations.
• Shadow other divisions to get an overall view of how the park functions.
• Conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.

Benefits

• Living Allowance: $660/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
• Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service and 640 hours of service.
• Housing reimbursement of $125/week.
• Relocation Allowance: up to $500 for eligible relocation expenses.
• Gear Allowance: up to $500 for eligible gear purchases.
• Training Reimbursement: up to $500 for eligible training expenses.
• Travel Reimbursement: up to $500 for eligible travel expenses.
• Provided Training/Orientation: Position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.
