Job DetailsJob Location: Potomac Falls Health & Rehab - STERLING, VA 20164Position Type: Full TimeESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS SPECIFIC TO THE INFECTION PREVENTIONIST ROLE: 1. Plans, implements, directs, and coordinates the Center’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP). 2. Completes specialized infection prevention and control training specific to long-term care within 30 days of hire, as indicated. 3. Provides IPCP training for employees, patients, visitors, and contracted persons at the time of orientation, admission, or initial contact at least annually and as needed. 4. Conducts compliance audits within the Center to validate the Center’s adherence to the IPCP. 5. Works collaboratively with Center employees to promote employee contributions to the IPCP planning at the center and corporate levels. 6. Works closely with the DON and the Director of Clinical Education in the development of policies, procedures, protocols, and training programs to improve infection prevention and control activities that promote patient care and safety. 7. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly rounds. Records findings of rounds and maintains a record from one survey period to the next. Develops and implements an action plan to resolve infection prevention and control concerns identified on rounds. 8. Using the CCR IPCP Meeting Agenda the IP is responsible and accountable for having a monthly IPCP/Antibiotic Stewardship Program committee meeting. Maintains a list of attendees, ensures minutes are recorded and reflect a summary of committee discussions relative to patterns and trends of infections in the center. 9. Sends monthly IPCP meeting minutes to the Director of Education no later than the 15th of the month for the previous month. 10. Attends CCR monthly infection prevention and control teams meeting, as indicated. 11. Prepares the monthly infection control and antibiotic stewardship reports and submits the reports to the Director of Nursing, no later than the 10th day of the following month. 12. Plans, implements, directs, and coordinates the center’s Antibiotic Stewardship Program. Works collaboratively with the IDT, Pharmacist, Medical Director, Prescribers, and nursing employees to appropriately implement the antibiotic stewardship program. 13. Collaborates with the QAPI team to identify and resolve identified areas of infection prevention and control concerns. 14. Meets with the IDT to determine type and duration of transmission-based precaution and co-horting needs as indicated. 15. Ensures appropriate transmission-based isolation signage is posted and based on the organism’s route of transmission. 16. Ensures transmission-based precaution sign(s) are located and easily seen outside of the patient’s room. 17. Ensures transmission-based precaution isolation supplies are readily available and near the entrance to the patient’s room. 18. Ensures transmission-based precautions isolation and regulated medical waste supplies are available inside the patient’s room. 19. Provides in-person infection prevention and control education to employees at the time of hire, annually and as needed. 20. Coordinates and manages vaccine administration (influenza, hepatitis B, COVID-19, etc.), as indicated for employees and patients. 21. Maintains appropriate infection surveillance and illness logs for employees and patients as indicated. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: 1. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed, in good standing, as an RN with the Virginia Department of Health Professions. 2. Must have completed specialized training in infection prevention and control prior to assuming responsibility for the center’s infection prevention and control program. Proof of specialized training is required. 3. Exceptional clinical and customer service skills. 4. Proficient in clinical skills including IV therapy. 5. Sound knowledge of adult learning. 6. Knowledge of Federal, State, and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens laws, and licensure regulations related to long-term care. 7. Effective oral and written communication skills. 8. Ability to work independently and self-motivate. 9. Proficiency in Excel.
