About The Position

The Education Coordinator will provide essential leadership in the daily facilitation of Environmental Science (ESCI) and Coastal Camp programs, working closely with the Education and Camp teams to ensure that all programs run smoothly and participant needs are met. This role drives educator development and program quality by designing training materials, maintaining supplies, and mentoring staff through guest teaching, peer observations, and informal coaching. Additionally, the coordinator provides critical support by remaining on standby, assisting with emergency response, and refining curriculum focused on science, equity, stewardship, and social-emotional learning. This position takes place at our campus in Sausalito, CA and cannot be performed remotely.

Requirements

  • Experience in a supervisory or mentoring role with demonstrated leadership.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback in a constructive and supportive manner.
  • Experience working with children (ages 4-16), including managing complex group dynamics and supporting students with special needs or behavioral conditions.
  • Proven ability to assess and manage physical and emotional risk in outdoor settings, including the administration of first aid as required.
  • Training or experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Experience leading or developing environmental education curriculum.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and database software.
  • Knowledge of NatureBridge Golden Gate campus and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years related summer camp or experiential education experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Wilderness First Aid (or higher) and CPR certification, EpiPen certification, ServSafe or willingness to obtain certification before beginning employment at your own expense (tuition aid available).
  • Must provide proof of Tuberculosis (TB) clearance prior to hire.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • All NatureBridge Employees are required to complete a background check in order to be eligible for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain gear and contribute to campus stewardship.
  • Refine and update lesson plans, activity guides, and program support materials.
  • Participate in staff meetings and complete all administrative paperwork with accuracy and punctuality.
  • Build respectful, supportive relationships with staff, volunteers, and participants while upholding high customer service standards.
  • Follow all housing policies and co-created community agreements.
  • Communicate via email and phone with guardians regarding registration details and camper updates.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts by sharing stories from the field.
  • Provide daily, ongoing support for programs including spontaneous field support, supporting day management duties, and responding to radio calls.
  • Serve as standby educator and frequently substitute in the field on short notice.
  • Follow NatureBridge policies and procedures, and use sound judgment to make decisions and manage risk while also managing students’ physical and emotional well-being when leading groups in outdoor settings. Administer and document first aid as necessary.
  • Observe and/or team-teach with educators, prioritizing developing staff, and offer timely, relevant feedback.
  • Support planning and facilitation of staff training.
  • Assist with educator interviews and onboarding.
  • Supervise up to 5 Coastal Camp counselors (in the summer).
  • Conduct formal observations for supervisees.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution between staff members.
  • Provide guidance on professional conduct and workplace expectations.
  • Facilitate time entry and work with HR to maintain employment documents for direct reports and other educators as needed.
  • Collaborate on departmental and cross campus functional working groups and initiatives.
  • Support campus operations and organizational goals through additional duties as assigned, such as event support, special projects, and community stewardship.
  • Collaborate on long-term educational projects and departmental initiatives.
