About The Position

The primary responsibility of this position will be to support the education mission of the Hamilton County Conservation District by providing informational programs on soil and water conservation as well as local stormwater issues to schools, the general public, civic organizations, libraries, clubs, and other groups. The Education Coordinator will also assist in seasonal projects, public events, and display development. The employee occupying this position is responsible to the Board of Supervisors and shall be subject to the direction of the Board. The Education & Outreach Program Manager will be the direct supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, or another related environmental field required with at least three years’ experience in teaching and/or program development.
  • A direct working knowledge of conservation issues as they apply to soil, water, and stormwater.
  • Ability to adapt programs to meet the learning needs of a wide range of audiences.
  • Respect and support the initiative of others, communicate in a timely, professional and candid manner with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills that include Microsoft Office.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and car insurance.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to pass a county background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of NPDES Phase II Stormwater Regulations is a plus.
  • Facilitator certification in Project WET, WILD or others is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and promote the understanding of soil and water conservation and stormwater issues through school, library, scout and summer programs, as well as the general public.
  • Develop K-12 education programs designed to meet Ohio Learning Standards as well as the needs of local schools, teachers, groups, and the District’s mission.
  • Actively seek opportunities to present information and conservation programs to new groups.
  • Evaluate programs and implement updated strategies to encourage increased participation in education programs.
  • Oversee the implementation of Minimum Control Measure 1 requirements of the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II Stormwater permit.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with organizations who have shared objectives.
  • Develop and distribute the education newsletter at least quarterly and contribute to the District’s newsletters as needed.
  • Update websites as needed with current events and programs, etc.
  • Identify funding and grant opportunities, write grants and funding proposals, manage projects, and report results to funders.
  • Develop and maintain inventory of program needs and present timely supply orders.
  • Coordinate local education events, contests, and workshops.
  • Partner with like-minded organizations to plan and implement education events such as Agriculture Education Day, Greater Cincinnati Environmental Educators’ Expo, Area IV Envirothon and practice event, and others.
  • Host county wide poster and essay contests yearly based on the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) published themes.
  • Schedule and lead workshops to train local teachers about conservation and stormwater issues.
  • Assist the Public Involvement Coordinator with storm drain labeling events.
  • Coordinate District staff to participate in public events throughout the county.
  • Work with partners to confirm participation in public events, specifically targeting Hamilton County Storm Water District co-permittees.
  • Coordinate staff schedules to ensure representation at events throughout the county.
  • Work with the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator to develop displays and marketing materials to be distributed at events.
  • Assist in staffing booths at events throughout the year.
  • Maintain records of activities and contacts.
  • Develop reports for the Board of Supervisors and Hamilton County Storm Water District as needed.
  • Maintain a current contact list of schools and partner organizations.
  • Other duties as required by the Board of Supervisors
