About The Position

LearningWorks is seeking a Part-Time After-School Education Coordinator to lead our afterschool program at East End Community School in Portland. This position is a good fit for an experienced educator, retired teacher, school-based professional, education graduate, instructional specialist, or other youth-focused professional who wants to work directly with students in a consistent school-year setting. The Coordinator serves as the instructional and day-to-day site leader. This includes supporting staff, coordinating programming, communicating with families and school partners, and helping ensure that students receive engaging and effective academic support.

Requirements

  • A relationship-centered approach to youth development.
  • Strong communication, mentoring and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm and supportive when students are struggling.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students or in a school, youth-development or educational setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in education or youth programming.
  • The ability to differentiate instruction and respond to varying academic and behavioral needs.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently.
  • Comfort using Google Workspace and other common educational technology.
  • The ability to analyze student progress and adjust instruction based on student needs.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field required.

Nice To Haves

  • Maine teaching certification preferred.
  • Elementary teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with academically struggling or historically underserved student populations preferred.
  • Transferable experience will be considered. We encourage applications from experienced educators, retired or former teachers, Ed Techs, tutors, youth-program professionals and other candidates whose background demonstrates the ability to lead students and staff effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operation of the afterschool program.
  • Create a structured, welcoming learning environment that promotes academic growth and positive behavior.
  • Provide and support targeted academic instruction for elementary students.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups, including students performing below grade level.
  • Help monitor student academic progress and use student data to inform instruction.
  • Support enrichment activities that build communication, problem-solving, initiative and perseverance.
  • Supervise and support afterschool teaching staff.
  • Coordinate daily programming, attendance, transportation and nutrition.
  • Maintain strong relationships with students, families, school staff and community partners.
  • Support student recruitment, enrollment and registration.
  • Participate in team meetings, planning, professional development and continuous program improvement.
