About The Position

This position is located in the Office of Assessment, Accountability, and Analytics in Baton Rouge, LA. The role involves implementing programs to further statewide assessment development and support the integration of Louisiana Student Standards for Social Studies, instructional best practices, and social studies-specific assessments. This position is crucial as Louisiana's social studies assessments evolve. Responsibilities include developing, reviewing, and constructing social studies assessment items aligned with the Louisiana Student Standards for Social Studies, providing support to LDOE teams, school system leaders, and educators, creating assessment resources, monitoring the scoring of social studies assessment tasks, analyzing the results of state social studies assessments, and facilitating various assessment review committees. Ideal candidates will have social studies teaching experience, in-depth knowledge of Louisiana Student Standards for Social Studies and effective social studies instructional practices, familiarity with social studies assessments, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple detail-oriented projects without sacrificing quality.

Requirements

Seven years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services
OR Six years of full-time work experience plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services
OR A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services
OR An advanced degree plus three years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services
Social studies teaching experience
In-depth knowledge of Louisiana Student Standards for Social Studies and effective social studies instructional practices
Familiarity with social studies assessments
Excellent communication skills
Ability to handle several, detail-oriented projects at the same time without sacrificing quality

Responsibilities

Developing, reviewing, and constructing social studies assessment items aligned to the Louisiana Student Standards for Social Studies
Providing support to LDOE teams, school system leaders, and educators
Creating assessment resources
Monitoring the scoring of social studies assessment tasks
Analyzing the results of the state's social studies assessments
Facilitating various assessment review committees
Leading team meetings and reviewing the work/performance of peers
Setting program goals and objectives, and developing plans for implementation
Providing regular updates to the Assessment Director and Assistant Superintendent on services, programs, and current issues
Collaborating with Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) staff to stay current on state and federal programs
Advising school system superintendents, educators, and external stakeholders on policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
Researching and developing new solutions and enhancing content based on trends, research findings, and legislative changes
Planning and conducting professional development, workshops, and conferences for educators, higher education institutions, and community groups
Traveling to schools or districts to provide on-site consultation and technical assistance
