Education Assistant - College Experience Program
About The Position
Living Resources is a non-profit human services agency dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals with disabilities or other life-challenging conditions to live with dignity, independence, and happiness. The College Experience program, a collaboration with Russell Sage College, provides young adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to take classes, build friendships in a safe residential environment, and prepare for work and independent living. The Educational Assistant (EA) will be based in a student dorm and will also work on The College of Saint Rose campus and in various community locations. The EA will provide small group instruction on domestic skills for independent living, such as meal preparation and household chores, and will also focus on self-advocacy. The role involves counseling students on all aspects of independent living.
Requirements
- HS Diploma or GED
- Valid NYS drivers license is required.
Nice To Haves
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in related field
- Some experience working with people with disabilities
Responsibilities
- Assist each student in the areas of independent living.
- Assist each student in campus and community integration/participation.
- Provide small group instruction on all domestic components of independent living, including how to prepare a balanced meal, proper execution of household chores, and self-advocacy.
- Counsel students on any and all aspects of independent living.
