About The Position

This is a Special Education Class 3B Education Assistant position for the STARS program at Neill Elementary School. The program serves students who have social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs requiring specialized programming supports. Students are typically more successful in a smaller, structured, predictable setting with a high staff-to-student ratio and benefit from targeted social/emotional/behavioral support from integrated school social workers and psychologists. Students have access to the typical school environment and increase participation as skills are built in the special education setting.

Requirements

At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in MN), an associate's or higher degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment.
Experience working with students who have cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities and behavior problems preferred.
Word processing, filing and computer familiarity.
Patient, calm and understanding manner when working with students.
Sensitivity to confidentiality.
Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
Able to assist students with classroom assignments.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills and has the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

Assists in providing supervision and instruction to students with disabilities.
Provides clerical and organizational support to special education teachers as needed.
Works with individuals and/or small groups when activities and assignments are presented by mainstream teachers and/or special education teachers.
Provides support for students in crisis.
Willingness to lift, carry and physically manage as necessary.
Other duties as assigned by teacher or principal.
