About The Position

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) works in partnership with local communities to support people with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities. APD provides critical services and support for customers with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential. The Agency serves people with spina bifida, autism, Down syndrome, children ages 3-5 at high risk of developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and intellectual disabilities. There is no charge or co-payment for services provided through the Agency. Requirements

  • Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
  • Must be willing to work beyond the normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels and meet the needs of the Agency.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Knowledge of using appropriate safety techniques in personal hygiene, grooming, and other activities of daily living.
  • Knowledge and ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used in medical, psychiatric, nursing, or childcare or working with developmentally disabled persons.
  • Ability to understand procedures and complete reports.
  • Ability to read, teach and implement residents’ support plans, formal and informal programs/interventions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to instruct others
  • Ability to become certified as a Zero Tolerance, Core Assurances, PASS, CPR and Physical and Nutritional Management instructor.
  • Demonstrates skill in the use of MS Office Suite software including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Demonstrates skill in managing/coordinating multiple, high-priority assignments
  • Demonstrates skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Demonstrates skill in operating audio and visual equipment such as video camera and visual presentation equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist with evacuation of residents during an emergency.
  • Must be able to work with or around cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Must be able to do repetitive movements with arms, hands, neck and head.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency, as appropriate, in all areas of training, some of which require physical activity such as CPR and PASS.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, stoop, squat, push, pull, lift and walk extended distances.
  • Must be able to physically operate all equipment necessary to do job tasks.
  • Must be able to remain alert while on duty.
  • Must be registered with the Selective Service System (SSS) before their 26th birthday, or have a Letter of Registration Exemption from the SSS (for male candidates born on or after October 1, 1962).

  • Preference will be given to those with a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and coordinates training activities, programs and workshops such as New Employee Training (NET), Zero Tolerance, Core Assurance, Physical and Nutritional Management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Prevention and Safety Strategies (PASS), and other trainings as needed.
  • Assists with monitoring of residential facilities to help prepare for Agency for Healthcare Administration surveys and improve the quality of services. Completes monitoring reports and provides training and coaching on the homes while monitoring.
  • Performs fire drills on homes and completes fire drill reports, while assisting staff with training about safety and proper evacuation procedures.
  • Coordinates and tracks training sessions and record course completions in the Training Manager system.
  • Develops, revises, and/or reviews training materials, curricula, lesson plans, presentations, supporting materials. Including NET, PASS, and others as needed. Evaluates training materials and presentations, using feedback from training.
  • Performs administrative duties, attends meetings, and serves on committees as directed.
  • Performs other duties as required.
