About The Position
The Education and Literacy Instructor (AEL) is responsible for developing and maintaining lesson plans, conducting instruction, and managing classroom behavior to ensure educational improvements for adult learners. This role involves assessing student needs, implementing effective teaching strategies, and meeting program performance measures. The instructor must also maintain accurate records, adhere to policies, and collaborate with staff and the community.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Trained in adult learning methodology.
- A minimum of two years’ experience working with adults.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly with individuals from diverse social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, and community.
- Documentation to satisfy I-9.
- Ability to pass drug screen and background check.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Nice To Haves
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level (strongly preferred).
- ESL certification (strongly preferred).
- Working knowledge of a second language (strongly preferred).
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain lesson plans based upon formal assessments and student goals using instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Ensure instruction produces educational improvements for all assigned students as measured by student baseline/progress testing.
- Conduct all activities necessary to secure progress tests for all students after 40 hours of instruction.
- Facilitate contextualized classroom instruction to AEL participants in IET classes.
- Submit all required documentation and reports in accordance with program guidelines (student-related and staff-related).
- Manage classroom behavior.
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of and adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required in a timely manner.
- Attend staff meetings, and other Goodwill North Central Texas event/meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
