This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical drawings and precise measurement techniques.

Requirements

  • Able to read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.
  • Able to measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
  • Knowledge of machine controls to adjust machine setting, such as voltage, current, frequency, and electrode feed rate, according to information on charts or machine procedures.
  • Knowledge to compute settings from specifications and knowledge of machine capacities.

Responsibilities

  • Follows sequence of operations and methods of set up in accordance with written and verbal instructions.
  • Positions and secures work piece on machine table with clamps, vise or fixture.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects problems when they arise.
  • Determines the planning and operation of various jobs for each machine.
  • Positions and secures electrode in holder on surface plate, verifying concentricity, alignment and depth using measuring devices such as calipers and dial indicators.
  • Positions gauge blocks, dial indicator and spindle stop on machine so that descending electrode will stop at specified feeler point touches gauge blocks.
  • Turns valve to adjust flow of dielectric coolant over electrode and work piece or to immerse them in circulating bath.
  • Adjusts machine settings, such as voltage, current, frequency, and electrode feed rate, according to information on charts or machine procedures.
  • Computes settings from specifications and understands machine capacities.
  • Inspects fasteners to verify conformance with specifications and blueprints using precision measuring devices.
  • Reads blueprint and job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts, and tooling instructions such as feed rates, holding fixtures to be used.
  • Recognizes improper machine function and takes corrective action.
  • Notifies supervisor or Lead person of major malfunctions.
  • Obtains specifications for work required on fasteners by reading router and OP drawing.
