About The Position

The EDM Operator works under the direction of the Tool Room Supervisor in Faulkner Tool Manufacturing. The role sets up, programs, operates, and maintains EDM machines to produce components from 3D models or drawings. The operator supports corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and documentation to help maintain HellermannTyton’s Quality and EHS certifications.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience operating and programming EDM machines for plastic injection molds.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with CAM programming software; Mastercam is preferred.
• Skilled use of precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to create wire EDM programs using Mastercam.
• Ability to set up machines to hold tolerances of +/- 0.0005 inches.
• Knowledge of plastic injection molds and tolerances associated with mold features.
• Knowledge of best practices for creating wire EDM and sinker EDM programs for efficient material removal.
• Computer skills sufficient to archive programs in the correct job folders; excellent computer skills, including Microsoft software.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Mastercam experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up parts and electrodes, and create programs using Mastercam for sinker and wire EDM machines.
• Create programs to finish core and cavity details as discussed during job meetings.
• Operate supporting equipment, including surface grinders, hole poppers, and cutoff saws.
• Perform required weekly machine maintenance.
• Maximize machine utilization and program machines for unattended operation during off-shift run time.
• Inspect machined electrodes using precision measuring equipment or interpret CMM reports.
• File documents and programs in the appropriate storage system.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
