About The Position

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is seeking an Editorial and Scientific Designer Intern to support the Radiocommunication Bureau (BR). The BR is responsible for the application of the Radio Regulations and provides technical and administrative support for ITU conferences and assemblies. The Informatics, Administration and Publications Department (IAP) within the BR is responsible for the development and maintenance of software, operational plans, publications, and human resources management. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in international radio regulations and develop advanced skills in graphic design and data visualization within a global organization.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of computer software and particularly drawing software and graphic design tools (Corel Draw, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience in technical drawing and in the preparation of graphs from data or mathematical formulae, as well as in computer-aided drawing and desktop publishing.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the ITU-R Editorial Style Guide, technical documents and the Radio Regulations (RR).
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Visual Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, or a related field.
  • English at advanced level.
  • Be under 30 years of age (Exceptions may be considered for candidates pursuing a Ph.D.).
  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate programme, or be a recent graduate(within six months prior to the start of the internship).
  • Be a citizen of a Member State of ITU.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the creation and modification of graphics, including illustrations, logos, layouts and photos, in accordance with Radiocommunications Bureau (BR) editorial and visual standards.
  • Contribute to the preparation of other drawings and visual materials as requested by the BR.
  • Assist in reviewing figures and graphics and in identifying editorial and visual corrections under the guidance of the Technical Designer.
  • Assist in preparing curves, charts and graphs from tables, mathematical formulae and databases, ensuring accuracy and clarity of presentation.
  • Contribute to the editorial coherence of visual and graphical materials in relation to BR technical content.
