About The Position

Editor, Harry Potter Publishing, will develop, edit, and project-manage high-quality books in multiple formats for the Harry Potter brand and related titles, including highly illustrated books, series and title repackages, companion titles, proprietary publishing, and more, under the direction of the Editorial Director. Requirements

  • Excellent communication and project management skills, including attention to detail and follow-up.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain publishing schedules, as well as to prioritize and multi-task across several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge and affinity for the Harry Potter books and brand.
  • Experience working with highly illustrated titles.
  • Strong editorial judgment and knowledge of market trends and talent.
  • Experience: 4+ years in editorial (book publishing)
  • Education: B.A.

Nice To Haves

  • PowerPoint / visual presentation skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all stages of each title’s print and/or digital lifecycle, including review of all passes; coordination with production, design, and freelancers; drafting of copy and metadata; review of proofs; management of approvals from key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally with marketing, publicity, sales, sub rights, and others in the Children’s Book Group, including Scholastic Reading Events, to maximize commercial opportunities and meet corporate business goals.
  • Proactively identify, propose, and develop opportunities for new publishing (including titles with co-edition potential) based on original IP.
  • Coordinate with external partners across multiple time zones on co-edition titles from point of acquisition to publication.
  • Attend virtual/in-person external meetings as needed and lead or support internal/external presentations.
  • Manage and maintain backlist, including reprint corrections and metadata refreshes.
  • Responsible for title-level P&L creation to meet profitability metrics.
