About The Position

The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. They use cutting-edge technologies and operate at speeds that push other pieces of the grid to go faster. As an Editor at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc., you will help ensure that high-quality materials, such as proposals, manuals, project reports, presentations, and technical papers, are produced for both internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years relevant experience editing/proofreading/producing technical documentation
  • Strong proofreading, writing, grammar, and communications skills
  • Strong understanding of MS Office software
  • The ability to work under pressure and recognize the criticality of meeting stringent deadlines
  • The ability to collaborate to produce high-quality, technically accurate material
  • The ability to learn and communicate technical/scientific information
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills

Nice To Haves

  • B.S./B.A. in English or technical communication or a related area
  • Experience with desktop publishing software
  • Experience with technical drawing software (e.g., MS Visio)
  • Working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and the Gregg Reference Manual
  • Experience editing complex technical documentation

Responsibilities

  • Proofread, edit, and format presentations, documents, manuals, guides, proposals, and/or other published material.
  • Develop and maintain a high skill level in editing, proofreading, and producing technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with authors, reviewers, and others to edit deliverables, plan projects, and meet deadlines.
